Media law reform hit by anti-vax comments
The Federal Government’s media law reform passage looks set to win the numbers in the Senate, despite a last-minute fight over anti-vaccination campaigners threatening to derail the deal yesterday.
On Tuesday, One Nation gave in-principle support to the changes to the media landscape, in exchange for agreement over reforms to Australia’s two public broadcasters — including a “competitive neutrality” inquiry into the ABC and SBS.
Pauline Hanson’s party also demanded changes to the ABC charter, requiring a renewed focus on regional Australia and the insertion of of the words “fair and balanced”, into the section of the Act governing its news coverage.
