Is the Lib Wagga Wagga defeat just the start?

Were you surprised that the Liberal Party was wiped out, in a humiliating defeat, at the Wagga Wagga by-election?

On Saturday, the people of Wagga Wagga sent a very clear message to the NSW State Liberal Government and Premier Gladys Berejiklian, turning their backs on them and stopping a 62-year Liberal reign. It was the third largest swing in NSW history and the seat is being predicted as falling to Independent candidate, Dr Joe McGirr, who gained 25.4% of the vote.

Losing 29% of their vote, surely the Libs have had the wake-up call that they needed, or have they?

As a NSW Senator, I have had many discussions with people who live on the NSW Coast in Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle, and they are not happy about the NSW Government locking them out from their fishing hotspots, to create even more Marine Parks. I believe that not only will people lose their recreational spaces, but this will impact on our tourism, which regional towns rely on.

If the NSW Liberal Party and their sitting members do not take heed and listen to what the people want, I can promise them that they will lose more seats and be further shamed at the upcoming March State election.
